Holliday Eagles advance to AA championship
ROUND ROCK - Holliday defeated Maypearl 3-1 Friday in the UIL Class 2A state baseball semifinals at Dell Diamond. The win improves the Eagles to 25-3 for the season and puts them into the championship game against Woodville, who defeated Comfort 4-2. This will be the fourth time Holliday - which is at the state tournament for a record 10th time -- has advanced to the championship game.
Holliday scored their winning runs in the seventh when Lane Gilmore walked with one out and scored when Zach Stewart hit a towering shot off of Maypearl pitcher Rusty Lewis. The ball bounced off the left field wall allowing Gilmore to score from first and Stewart reached third. . Holliday got their final score when Cody DeArmond batted in courtesy runner Cuyler Flinn on a fielder's choice to give Holliday a 3-1 lead. The score stood.
Starting pitcher Zach Stewart (12-1) pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts, 4 walks and 6 hits.

ROUND ROCK - Casey Beck's two-out single in the third inning scored Jess Conner and Trevor Rainey, as Woodville defeated Holliday 2-1. Beck later relieved starter Bredon Riley (9-0) in the sixth to earn his sixth save. Beck was named MVP.
Holliday's Thomas Koetter (12-3) and Zach Stewart combined to allow just two hits. Holliday (25-4) scored in the sixth when Cody DeArmond batted in Stewart.
